1st iTunes Movie Premiere
Ed Burns may become a pioneer of sorts with his next flick. Burns tells Cinematical.com that Purple Violets, the Selma Blair rom-com he wrote and directed and which screened at the Tribeca Film Festival last spring, will be available for download exclusively on iTunes in October — before the film is released into theaters. Beginning Oct. 9, Violets will be available on the Apple site for one month, after which, Burns says, the "numbers" for the download may determine what kind, if any, theatrical release the little movie — which he says is the best he ever made but admits has "absolutely no audience" theatrically — gets. It revolves around four college lovers/friends who are struggling with their careers and personal lives as they hit their thirties. Also on board: Patrick Wilson, Debra Messing, Dennis Farina, Donal Logue and, of course, Burns.
